DIY Doll Books and Magazines

I've been making books and magazines since yesterday.

I started with a few finished books.

And a few more to glue and tape.

Now I have a bunch. (I didn't make a Sindy magazine. That came from my doll clothes haul here.)

I put them in a small pizza box. I'm still making more. It's actually a little relaxing, haha.

I made them out of magazine cutouts and paper board. And I used foam tape to make the books more solid (they can't open because of it) and clear tape to give the covers a glossy finish.

New Moon Sindy Doll Clothes

My order of New Moon Sindy doll items arrived today. Ariel is modelling them for me:

Sindy's pink felt coat with fake fur and small buttons, a pink fatigue shirt that looks like a crop top on Ariel, and pink cargo pants!

The clothes fit her very well!

She also has a pink body bag with small pockets!

So pink and hip!

And there's also a cardboard cutout that looks like a magazine.

Sindy's white shoes are too small for Ariel's Liv feet, but Barbies can wear them. The fake fur on the bedroom slippers fell off,but I thought the slippers still look good without them. I haven't found a doll yet that could wear them. They're quite big but narrow. Hmm...

Gift 'Ems by Jakks Pacific, and The Manila Dolls!

Yesterday I was watching Froggy's new video. It's a toy review for Jakks Pacific's upcoming line called Gift 'Ems:

Basically, Gift 'Ems are miniature collectible dolls that represent cities from all over the world. Each doll comes in a unique gift box that actually opens up into a display box of the doll, their city and country.

I happen to notice one of the dolls is labelled Manila. I got excited for that, lol. Here are some screen shots from Froggy's video:

Can you spot the Manila doll? She's supposed to be a Rare type!

I found the Gift 'Ems Facebook page but it didn't have the information I need to identify the doll, but there were some group photos of her with the rest of the gang.

Manila doll on the driver's seat!

The complete Gift 'Ems checklist.

Also the official website was launched yesterday, so I was able to learn more about the Manila doll. Her name is Marisol Manila!

I like that her favourite food is fruit, and they didn't even mention mango but pineapple. It's not a very rigid characterisation of a "national" doll. (Mango is our national fruit!)

I happened to contact Jakks Pacific to know more about Marisol Manila. I'm very happy that they responded and sent these photos of Marisol to me! Check it out!

Very unassuming gift box in teal colour and white stripes and a white ribbon on top.

When you open the box, Marisol the doll is revealed in the middle of the collapsible box. The walls of the box are decorated with what could be photos taken in Manila: a gazebo, what looks like an old building, and a fountain by a garden. Even though I don't recognise those places, I think they are nice photos that represent the city. On the front is the flag of the Philippines, the city and the doll's name.

The box can be folded inside out as a display stand for the doll!

Her outfit consists of the red top with a sun print, blue pants with a yellow star, and a pair of red shoes. I love that the sun on her shirt is similar to the sun on the Philippine flag!

I realised too late that there's another Manila doll, so I wasn't able to ask for her photos, too, but that's OK. Her name is Penelope Playa!

She seems to be wearing a swimsuit that looks like the Philippine flag but without the sun and the stars.

I feel that through Gift 'Ems, the company would like to foster international friendship among collectors, and instill in our collective minds an awareness for both our own and other people's culture. In a way, I think it also encourages travel, especially for the little ones who are just learning about geography.

All the doll's hair and outfits can be interchanged! This is pretty cool, because Marisol can be from Manila and have pink hair and a skiing outfit from the Moscow doll, but she's still the same Marisol from Manila! And have you seen Penelope Playa's eyes? They are blue, which is not normal for an Asian's eyes. As funny as it sounds, I have to say it: the doll is not "boxed" within the country she's from (that is, if you decide to collect more than one Gift 'Ems dolls!).

I feel that both dolls being tagged as Rare would make them more inaccessible, which is kinda sad, but on the other hand, I think this kind of label would make them sought after by collectors, so in a way they'll also stand out.

I hope Gift 'Ems are rolled out in the Philippines someday. I want to see what they look like in person. Given the rarity of the two dolls, I might not be able to get my hands on them that easily, but it's cool to know that other collectors from outside my country can get them by surprise.

Clone Barbie Dresses

I was browsing Lazada when I found clone Barbie dresses that I thought looked familiar, so I made comparisons!

Barbie's Color Me Glam dress.

Summer's Fashionistas outfit in 2012, I think.

Barbie's Endless Curls dress, similar to the comparison I made here.

A Fashionistas fashion pack. The third photo in the comparison came from my old post.

I'm not so knowledgeable about Barbie fashion, so these are the only ones I could come up with. :D

Doll Pool Floats

I follow Doll Junkie on Instagram and got curious about the doll pool floats she uses for her dolls.

It turns out that those doll pool floats are actually inflatable drink holders!

So clever and cute!

All My Barbies... Not Really

Here are photos of all my Barbie dolls. I forgot to add Fountain Mermaid Christie here, so I should have 13.

From left to right:
Nikki with flat feet
Kira - Animal Lovin' Nikki, rebodied
Hannah Montana - OK she's not a Barbie but I bought her with a Barbie body so she is now a Barbie to me
Summer - rebodied. I don't like her face. She's bait.
Barbie - Rebodied
Nikki - Film Director

Asha - Made To Move
Nikki - Swappin Styles
Midge - Hawaii, rebodied
Midge - California Dream, rebodied
Summer - Candy Glam reissue, rebodied
Trichelle - So In Style Pet Fun

I'll retake a photo with Christie in it, and I have not included my custom Hit Girl doll with a Barbie body, hehe. So I have 14 Barbies now, eh? Wait, I also have another Barbie head as a bait. So 15 then?

Even though I said Kira would be the last Barbie I bought, I still yearn for some Barbie dolls, like a Lea sculpt that I like, or a Tori sculpt from Generation Girl. I like Tori. She has the lips of someone who underwent a Korean smile lift surgery.

I also find the Lara sculpt pretty at times, but I'm not as compelled to get a doll with a Lara sculpt than I am with Tori.

How I Organise My Doll Clothes

Shasha left me a comment on my Pretty In Pink blog entry, asking me how I organise my doll clothes using a photo album because I briefly mentioned it on the post. So here it is, this is a post about how I organise my doll clothes at the moment.

First, I learned this tip from My Froggy Stuff. I recommend you watch this first so you can be inspired to tidy up and organise your doll clothes.

I used to store my doll clothes in a tin lunchbox. Then I moved them all to a plastic shoe box, but my doll clothes collection keeps growing so I have to move them elsewhere. So here's where all my doll clothes are: in a box.

OK, so this is actually the box I got when I received Zombie Alice. I didn't throw it away.

Inside are these items:

A small Pokemon photo album. Haha. Pokemon Go is so popular nowadays, right? I thought this is fitting.

I keep all my Takara, Daiso and other small doll clothes here. I know my collection isn't that big yet, but it will be when I start making more clothes and stuff. I keep the album close with two rubber bands.

As long as I store this album upright, my doll clothes won't fall out.

Here's another Pokemon photo album. Haha. I actually bought both for P30 each because they are on sale at the kids' section of my local department store.

I keep my Barbie clothes here. I don't have much, because I only have a few Barbies. Like, 13 Barbies, that's all.

I like this idea of keeping doll clothes in a photo album because I can see each item when I flip the pages.

The small photo albums actually came with plastic covers. I also used them to store other items like hats, Paddington Bear jackets, and even Monster High clothes because I don't even have a lot of those. I also store underwear, socks and other small items in a clear pouch that I can slip in there, too.

I keep both covers intact with rubber band.

A few stray clothes, haha. A Blue Magic shirt that is too big for my Justin Bieber doll but he can manage, then Lottie's stock ballet outfit, a Daiso maid outfit, and a Barbie skirt that needs to be washed and darned.

This one is a clear book I also bought at the kids' section. I got this plus a sheet of Barbie stickers and a sheet of Looney Tunes Stickers, all for P50.

I store all my Barbie dresses and other baggy items here.

I can store two or three items in one page, to save space.

This is a backup photo album. There's nothing in there yet but I'm keeping this for future doll clothes sorting. Also I found an extra clear book among my things, so I'll keep it for this purpose as well.

For doll shoes, that's a different story. I keep them all in the tin lunchbox I was referring to earlier, but it's such a mess, and it takes times for me to find a pair because I have to rummage through everything. I'll think of a better way to store them.

Christmas 2016 Shopkins Shoppies Dolls?

I just saw a photo of upcoming Shoppies dolls. I could only identify a new Jessicake doll (left), that's about it.

Photo from RGI Christmas Trade Show happening now. Source

I'm curious about that girl on the right! Who could it be? What's her name?

/Apparently this is the Shopkins Season 6 Chef Club series.
Left to right: Jessicake, Bubbleisha, and Donatina (with short straight hair)!
