Bootleg Snow White Doll Rerooted

I finally finished rerooting my Disney Snow White clone doll today.

I basically just poked my needle through the original holes in her head, but since my needle's eye is a bit big, the holes I poked became bigger, which means, my plugs would be a little thicker. I kept that in mind because I don't really want a doll with a floppy head because of her heavy hair.

The hair I used isn't the best quality because it's just cheap hair extension, but I like this much better than the factory hair she came with, which was very shiny, slippery and scraggly. Alliterations, ahoy.

I tied her hair in a ponytail. To tame down the short hair strands that I didn't manage to catch, I just sprayed some hairspray on the doll's head. It made the hair stiff, which is fine to me, and somehow modernised her look because her ponytail isn't so flat looking on her head. The new hair and the hairspray gave volume to the hairstyle.

Her face somehow got stained because the acrylic paint I painted on her scalp got transferred to her face during reroot, so I got some cotton swabs dipped in nail polish remover and swabbed her face to get off the black stain, carefully going around her painted facial features: the eyebrows, eyes and lips.

Her head looks a bit zombie like because of the colour, but I think it's not just the acrylic paint's fault. Perhaps it's the combination of the paint transfer, what the head is made of which is a very light coloured and thin vinyl, and the roots of the new hair that are tucked inside her head. Light cannot pass freely through her vinyl head because of the hair inside, so I think that is why the whole head casts a darker shade, I guess.

I plan to give her a new dress, preferably the wedding dress Snow White wore in the movie Mirror, Mirror:

I know it's ambitious of me to copy such an amazing dress, but I really want a doll in the bride's likeness.

Ghoulia's Scooter and Jasmine's Makeover

Yesterday I found Ghoulia Yelp's scooter at the thrift store!

Here is Spectra modelling Ghoulia's scooter. I actually have a Ghoulia doll but she's naked and has missing arms so Spectra is in her place for this photo.

The only thing missing from the scooter is the stand, but I just cut up an old credit card into four pieces and to size, taped all pieces with masking tape, then inserted it to the stand slot. It kind of works.

There's a void at the back of the scooter shaped into a coffin. I bet that's Ghoulia's coffin backpack. But I think it's not really part of the scooter, so it's fine.

I placed my other toy scooter beside Ghoulia's scooter. Isn't it tiny?? Collecting scooters might be fun. I wonder....

Anyway, I also found a Disney Jasmine doll, but her body is not fully articulated, not even her elbows and wrists, but I'll make do with it.

I didn't take a before photo because her hair was in a fried mess, I just didn't feel like taking her photo at the time. So here she is. She had a hair trim and it was restyled.

Look at her huge bald spot. She even has some missing plugs in other places, but this part is massive. When I saw her at the thrift store with the bald spot, I immediately thought of side shaves. Her face can definitely handle a side shave hair style. It just works for her, I don't know why.

I made her earrings using a blue wire. I shaped the wire using a pencil.

Her hair is so frizzy. Boil wash didn't help her hair situation at all. So I trimmed an inch of her hair, then tied it all in a side ponytail. Then I braided the rest of hair into small braids. Look at those bushy ends, ugh!

I really wanted to make her wear street fashion and not princess stuff, so I dressed her up like so.

Shirt: Barbie from Candy Glam Summer reissue. I might replace this with a handmade red tube top (still to be made, of course. LOL) because it gets hidden under the jacket anyway.

Pants: Barbie, I guess.

Shoes: clone Barbie boots

I think she's missing bangles and stuff, but I could add those later.

God, I really need a better spot for taking doll photos, but I don't have anything set up in my room right now. Oh well.

Barbie x Hi:Glamm Doll Hybrid

Hi:Glamm dolls are fashion dolls with extremely long legs. They're much taller than Barbie, and their face reminds me of Winx Club dolls, for some reason. At one point, a Hi:Glamm doll was in my wish list, but I changed my mind and just switched to Hasbro's Leggy dolls, vintage dolls with more manageable height but have the skinny long legs, as promised.

The other day I saw an online post about some pre-loved Hi:Glamm dolls, so I thought I'd look up Hi:Glamm dolls on the Internet once again. Then I stumbled upon this type of fakie:

These dolls seem to be a clone and a hybrid of Barbie and Hi:Glamm dolls. What sorcery is this?! I never thought I'd see the day when I find out that Hi:Glamm dolls have been cloned, sort of.

By looking at this photo, I am assured that I really do not want a Hi:Glamm doll anymore. I was mainly fascinated by the doll's rareness, and how funny their legs look specially when you want to pose them for a photo, that's why I kept it on my wish list for some time, but I realised the novelty of their legs looking like that does get tiring after a while.

Besides, I have a tall and long-legged doll like Lollipop Girls, and I find my own Lollipop Girls doll much more adorable and inspiring. I treat dolls as a muse. They should inspire me and make me happy when I look at them, or else why should I keep collecting them?

Fire Escape Shelf

I was browsing Buzzfeed when I stumbled upon this product that costs so much but would be great for dolls, I think.

 Yup that's a wall shelf that resembles a fire escape. Isn't it cool??!

A miniature fire escape!!

I got the photos from this Amazon page. It's sold for $99.99 so I thought it's too much, but the idea is wonderful and doable at home. If you are building a doll housing complex of some sort (LOL), if you have that kind of space, this is perfect. I think it would look better for doll photography if the background has smaller brick patterns. A scrapbook paper with a brick design, perhaps?

Pre-Loved Monster High Dolls

I bought some Monster High dolls online:

Operetta and Gigi Grant are intact while Lagoona Blue and second Operetta doll have missing limbs. That's fine, to think that signature Gigi is difficult to find for me here in Manila for a good price.

I now have three Operettas, and Lagoona here is my second Dance class Lagoona, so now I have three Lagoona dolls.

I found Spectra Vondergeist too, but she was missing some accesories like a wrist band, a hair accessory, and her ankle cuffs, but that's totally fine.

This was after I gave her a bath and fixed her armour thing. It wasn't supposed to go on the waist but on her shoulders!

I also added a fabric flower on her pony tail because I thought the colour of the flower matched her colour scheme very well. It's a nice touch.

As usual, I'm still behind my sewing and restoration projects so I shouldn't buy any more dolls, but I did rearrange my dolls in their storage case so I guess seeing how many I already have puts things in perspective.

Snubbed

So it happened again.

I saw someone selling a certain doll sweater in an online selling group, and they said in the description of their post that the sweater is from an unknown source. I then left a comment saying it's the quidditch (a wizard sport) sweater worn by Mattel Harry Potter to help identify the doll that owns the sweater. I mean, sure, they didn't ask help to identify the sweater, but they did write in the description that it's from an unknown source. If you felt the need to mention that, doesn't it mean you are at least curious about where the item came from?

Well, I went back to the post because I wanted to look at the sweater again, and I found out that my comment has been deleted. Plus the description of the item being sold was not edited even though I've already identified the doll.

I would have been their potential customer had they struck a conversation with me in the comments, because I have a Mattel Harry Potter doll that could totally wear that sweater, and I don't mind getting an extra piece of clothing bundled with the sweater because it might fit my other dolls. But no.

Jem: A Work In Progress

I finally made a dress for Jem last night but I think I have to adjust it some more.

Aww it looks like a trench coat or a robe. I made the neckline like that because I was thinking of a kimono when I was sewing the dress.

I didn't give enough room for the sleeves because I figured that I will just display her on the shelf so she can just stand up with her arms on her sides. Besides her modified hands are biking hands so even if I bent her arms, it wouldn't look like she's holding a mic, but a bike handle instead, as seen on this post.

I cheated by making a tube top out of a piece of fabric I wrapped on her chest and secured it with masking tape, which is hidden under all that fabric.

I will have to shorten the hemline so that it would show off her thighs, and change the way the hemline looks because it's supposed to go downwards the opposite way, as seen on her original dress:

I tied a sheer blue grey ribbon around her waist as her belt because that's all I have.

Her shoes are still not done. Those are just Ken clone shoes and I'll have to paint them in magenta.

Jem came in her original tights so that's cool because I don't find it easy making doll pants and other types of bottoms with leg holes.

I love her hair. I made her light pink hair pop out more by painting them with pink hair mascara which I demo'd here. Her hair doesn't feel stiff even with the hair mascara. That's because I carefully applied the mascara on her hair and didn't put a lot to colour it. Then when the mascara dried, I brushed her hair with a dog brush, which is a must have for your doll arsenal.

I will make a microphone for her to hold later, after the dress has been adjusted.
