Bootleg Monster High doll - Fashion Girl

Yesterday I bought a bootleg Monster High doll called Fashion Girl:

I bought it at a toy store in Farmers Plaza, Cubao, for P150.

There was a bootleg of Clawdeen as well but I didn't get her because I have a lot of real Clawdeen dolls now, then there's also a green bootleg that resembles Frankie, but she's too green that her skin tone resembles Honey Swamp.

I picked her because she's also a bootleg of Frankie, but her face mould is Ghoulia's/Cupid's or Cleo's. And her skin tone is white, it reminds me of Skelita. I plan to customise her face like a skeleton.

Up close, you can see the colour of the vinyl looking off-white but it doesn't bother me.

The back of the box. Looks like a Scaris background, I'm not sure.

The sides of the box.

When you pull out the cardboard insert, then this side of the box with the ties is visible. It's very easy to unbox the doll if it's secured this way.

The doll out of the box.

She's free, at last!

Her neck knob looks weird, and that angular part of the knob sticks out of her neck when the head is on, but if I push the head down, there's nothing to anchor the head anymore down there so the head wobbles. Plus the doll just looks like a no-neck monster.

Her dress is quite short but still manageable. I just didn't like that one of her ribbon straps snagged from excess plastic on her body when I undressed her, so it's frayed a bit.

Her face. Her makeup is fine, I guess, except for that right eyebrow which is fading. She has better screening than the ones I didn't pick at the store.

I haven't dared to remove her hair tie, but of course I already expect a large bald spot when I do remove it. I'll keep the hair as it is.

Her shoes are small for her, but maybe with hot water, it can finally fit her. I don't have time for doing that and I think I'll just use the shoes for a different doll.

Her body is hard and a bit light weight. Apparently she doesn't have wrist joints, and it was too late when I found so I accidentally broke the doll's hands off while inspecting her, I fixed it afterwards with a lit candle, wire, and masking tape.

Oh, by the way, not in photo but I also found a broken bootleg Frozen Anna doll at a thrift store. I was a bit surprised that she is articulated. I believe her body is a bootleg of a Barbie Fashionistas doll with the chest joint. Her knees are old knee joints so the legs can only fold and not rotate. I bought her for P40.

She was missing her left arm and hand, but I was thinking of using her as a donor for my bootleg Snow White doll which only has click knees and no chest joint, so I didn't mind that she is broken.

I didn't take a photo but it turns out that I could just pop off the arm of Anna, and the arms of Snow White! Whew, the body transplant became easier because of it. I was actually already thinking of using hot water to somehow switch the arms from their shoulder joints yada yada. Thank goodness, it's not necessary at all.

I haven't been inspired to do crafting or sewing for my dolls as of late. I could go a day or two without touching a doll nowadays, which is kinda sad. Maybe it's because I'm just waiting for my new sewing machine to arrive. More details about that when it's here.

Bootleg Snow White Doll Rerooted

I finally finished rerooting my Disney Snow White clone doll today.

I basically just poked my needle through the original holes in her head, but since my needle's eye is a bit big, the holes I poked became bigger, which means, my plugs would be a little thicker. I kept that in mind because I don't really want a doll with a floppy head because of her heavy hair.

The hair I used isn't the best quality because it's just cheap hair extension, but I like this much better than the factory hair she came with, which was very shiny, slippery and scraggly. Alliterations, ahoy.

I tied her hair in a ponytail. To tame down the short hair strands that I didn't manage to catch, I just sprayed some hairspray on the doll's head. It made the hair stiff, which is fine to me, and somehow modernised her look because her ponytail isn't so flat looking on her head. The new hair and the hairspray gave volume to the hairstyle.

Her face somehow got stained because the acrylic paint I painted on her scalp got transferred to her face during reroot, so I got some cotton swabs dipped in nail polish remover and swabbed her face to get off the black stain, carefully going around her painted facial features: the eyebrows, eyes and lips.

Her head looks a bit zombie like because of the colour, but I think it's not just the acrylic paint's fault. Perhaps it's the combination of the paint transfer, what the head is made of which is a very light coloured and thin vinyl, and the roots of the new hair that are tucked inside her head. Light cannot pass freely through her vinyl head because of the hair inside, so I think that is why the whole head casts a darker shade, I guess.

I plan to give her a new dress, preferably the wedding dress Snow White wore in the movie Mirror, Mirror:

I know it's ambitious of me to copy such an amazing dress, but I really want a doll in the bride's likeness.

Birthday Reroot

It's my birthday today. Not really that eventful because I'm cash-strapped at the moment and I don't feel like celebrating when I'm worried. But my brother is taking me out to lunch, so yay, I guess.

Anyway, before I leave the house, I started working on my bootleg Snow White doll's hair. I must admit, I really don't like rerooting that much because it takes a lot of effort and patience, but I thought she really needs new hair.

My messy table at the moment. If you could see it, there's a dog brush on the table. That's what I use now for brushing doll hair because it works like magic. Thank you for the idea, Denisa! The brush came from my sister, together with a dog nail clipper, which I plan to use when cutting wooden dowels.

I painted Snow White's head with black nail polish. Just one coat so that I could still squish the head while rerooting. Then I am using this dark brown/black hair extension I found at the department store months ago. My replacement hair isn't the greatest, but I think it is much better than the original hair my doll had.

/After putting more plugs, the nail polish started flaking off. Messy, but it didn't do any harm to my doll. I shall use black acrylic paint later.

I had to cut off the eye of a new needle again because I misplaced the one I've used before, ugh. Poor toenail nipper. I used it to cut off the eye and ruined the blade in the process, but it's an old rusting one, so that's okay. I have a crafting knife so I switch the blade with the modified needle, for my makeshift rerooting tool.

I have just inserted three hair plugs. I'll get back to this later.

Snow White's head is temporarily perched on a spindle, the same one I used when I needed a stand for my Novi Stars Ari Roma doll.  I thought that maybe gravity could somehow help with the hair situation because her new hair is not yet flat on her head.

I hope I can finish her hair soon.

Bootleg Snow White doll

I'm not a fan of Snow White, but when I saw this bootleg doll at a toy store, I thought it would be fun to get one. It was on sale for P150.

A photo heavy post coming right up!
