The Dead and Undead

I gotta welcome the newest member of my doll collection. Drum roll, please...

Bootleg Zombie Rapunzel (left) presents... Zombie Alice from Once Upon A Zombie!! She's finally home with me! More details about her arrival, unboxing and my thoughts of the doll on a later post.

Heh, they're standing on my laptop with a New Moon skin. I badly needed a laptop skin and happened to find this one at a bookstore for P50. It's a very good deal! And I like Taylor Lautner, ok. He's a nice dude.

YAAAAAAAASSSSS!!!! For now, Bootleg Zombie Rapunzel, Zombie Alice and Spectra are hanging out on the dusty top of my book shelf. Zombies and ghost, yeah. (Wait, why didn't I put Ghoulia next to the zombie girls instead of Spectra? Oh right, that's because I haven't fixed my only Ghoulia doll yet. Next time...)

Can't Keep My Promise

I told myself that I will stop buying Barbies, but I just couldn't pass up this chance at the thrift store:

My two Nikkis (left and middle) welcome... Grace? What is her name? I can't identify her. She could be a Barbie So In Style doll, but I haven't found a match. I'll just call her Chloe. She's named after the character from My Froggy Stuff's Darbie Show.

/I found out that she's really a Barbie So In Style doll! Her real name is Trichelle, and she's in the Pet Fun two-pack with a little doll called Janessa!

Her head seems smaller than I'm used to with my other Barbies. Her eyes are brown. She's wearing pink eyeshadow, and her lip colour is somewhat peach. Her body is articulated, but her knees are like the old-style Fashionistas hinge knees which could only bend and not rotate.

In other not-so-exciting news, I had to separate my growing pile of doll bodies and body parts from the rest of my doll collection, to give way to my newly acquired dolls. It's kinda creepy when I look into my plastic box of bait dolls, but I just shake off that feeling, haha.

I don't have a lot of doll clothes, but it's getting out of hand. My plastic shoe box won't close anymore because there's too much fabric to store. Next time I'll find a way to contain this mess.

My sister and brother are coming home from New York very soon. I can't wait to receive her haul for me.

And I'm a little worried that I still haven't received my Zombie Alice doll when it's supposed to be on the way. Sigh.

Bootleg Monster High doll - Fashion Girl

Yesterday I bought a bootleg Monster High doll called Fashion Girl:

I bought it at a toy store in Farmers Plaza, Cubao, for P150.

There was a bootleg of Clawdeen as well but I didn't get her because I have a lot of real Clawdeen dolls now, then there's also a green bootleg that resembles Frankie, but she's too green that her skin tone resembles Honey Swamp.

I picked her because she's also a bootleg of Frankie, but her face mould is Ghoulia's/Cupid's or Cleo's. And her skin tone is white, it reminds me of Skelita. I plan to customise her face like a skeleton.

Up close, you can see the colour of the vinyl looking off-white but it doesn't bother me.

The back of the box. Looks like a Scaris background, I'm not sure.

The sides of the box.

When you pull out the cardboard insert, then this side of the box with the ties is visible. It's very easy to unbox the doll if it's secured this way.

The doll out of the box.

She's free, at last!

Her neck knob looks weird, and that angular part of the knob sticks out of her neck when the head is on, but if I push the head down, there's nothing to anchor the head anymore down there so the head wobbles. Plus the doll just looks like a no-neck monster.

Her dress is quite short but still manageable. I just didn't like that one of her ribbon straps snagged from excess plastic on her body when I undressed her, so it's frayed a bit.

Her face. Her makeup is fine, I guess, except for that right eyebrow which is fading. She has better screening than the ones I didn't pick at the store.

I haven't dared to remove her hair tie, but of course I already expect a large bald spot when I do remove it. I'll keep the hair as it is.

Her shoes are small for her, but maybe with hot water, it can finally fit her. I don't have time for doing that and I think I'll just use the shoes for a different doll.

Her body is hard and a bit light weight. Apparently she doesn't have wrist joints, and it was too late when I found so I accidentally broke the doll's hands off while inspecting her, I fixed it afterwards with a lit candle, wire, and masking tape.

Oh, by the way, not in photo but I also found a broken bootleg Frozen Anna doll at a thrift store. I was a bit surprised that she is articulated. I believe her body is a bootleg of a Barbie Fashionistas doll with the chest joint. Her knees are old knee joints so the legs can only fold and not rotate. I bought her for P40.

She was missing her left arm and hand, but I was thinking of using her as a donor for my bootleg Snow White doll which only has click knees and no chest joint, so I didn't mind that she is broken.

I didn't take a photo but it turns out that I could just pop off the arm of Anna, and the arms of Snow White! Whew, the body transplant became easier because of it. I was actually already thinking of using hot water to somehow switch the arms from their shoulder joints yada yada. Thank goodness, it's not necessary at all.

I haven't been inspired to do crafting or sewing for my dolls as of late. I could go a day or two without touching a doll nowadays, which is kinda sad. Maybe it's because I'm just waiting for my new sewing machine to arrive. More details about that when it's here.

Colored Hair Gel Experiment

Last time, I found pink hair mascara on sale and tested it on a bait doll. Now I'm trying a colored hair gel I found at the thrift store. I know, I know, yuck that's disgusting but I'm only using it for my doll and not on me.

Anyway, this is the hair gel I found:

It's Fright Night Colored Hair Gel in R.I.Pink. Very strong pink colour in the tube.

I applied it on this Barbie's hair.

This Barbie is originally blond, and my stepmom found this together with another doll while going through her clutter in the house. I don't like her face but I could use her body, so I'm keeping her as bait.

Her hair didn't pick up the bright and strong colour of the gel in the tube. I thought it was going to be very bright because she has light coloured hair, but no.

Her hair became really stringy and stiff. It doesn't feel nice to the touch. I washed it off afterwards, but some of the hair strands got stained so the doll's blond hair has hints of pink in it.

My fault is that I didn't make a comparison between her hair and the doll I experimented on with hair mascara.. I could do it again if I wanted to, but this experiment really disappointed me, so probably not.

It's also cool that she's looking to the side, and has a serious or focused look on her face.

She will be sold for $40. I kinda wish a more basic Katana doll will be available in toy stores because DOLL DIVERSITY!

Lottie and Chiffon

I finally found two of the dolls I have on my wish list!

A Lottie doll! It's Spring Celebration Ballet Lottie and she is missing her ballet shoes but no problem. I want to make her a school uniform a la School Days Lottie!

A Cutie Pops Chiffon doll!! She's missing many accessories but I do not mind. The best part of this haul is I got her dress and shoes! I plan to fix her, such as giving her eyes, completing her hair and making pops for her dress because those cupcake pops are gone.

I haven't compared her head size to my I Love VIP Pets Dakota doll's yet. Coming soon!

By the way, my sister is getting me a Made To Move yellow top doll and a sewing machine! I still have to wait for a month to get those, but I'm quite excited!

Reaction to Shibajuku Girls Article

So I stumbled upon this article from the Dailymail:
Party's over, Barbie! Meet the woman whose Harajuku-inspired dolls are set to shake up the toy industry
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3609999/Madeleine-Hunter-invented-Harajuku-inspired-Shibajuku-Girls-dolls-set-rival-Barbie.html

To be honest, these Shibajuku Girls remind me of other big- and round-headed dolls like Pullip, Blythe, La Dee Da, and Cutie Pops. I don't think they are in direct competition with Barbie at all because she's on a different league.

Shibajuku Girls

Cutie Pops

La Dee Da

'I've made the doll large than any doll on the shelf. It's 13 inches and the standard doll size is 11 and a half inches,' Ms Hunter said.
'I also went back to that really natural and pretty face, I know there are a lot of monster dolls and vampires are a huge trend, but since Barbie there hasn't really been a pretty doll.'
There hasn't really been a pretty doll. Well what do Ever After High dolls look like to her? A bunch of ogres? Or those Bratz, Disney Descendants dolls, Disney Star Darlings, and Moxie Girlz, are they not pretty dolls?

In terms of height, DC Super Hero Girls are quite the same. They're pretty looking dolls, too. And has she not seen Gooliope Jellington or those three frightfully tall ghouls dolls, or Madeline Hatter in her giant greasy hair glory? They're all really tall with bulbous head.

I think the best thing about Shibajuku Girls dolls would have to be the knee-high cat socks. I'm not even fascinated by their face or those inset glass eyes.

Taking Doll Selfies

Yesterday evening I tried on some floral outfits on Rapunzel and Anna and tried taking photos of them a la selfie. It was quite difficult to get that certain angle and lighting, but I know I'll get better.

Lots of shadows due to poor lighting, and you could see the mess that is my bed, haha.

With flash. Rapunzel's hair strand all over Anna's face.

What is Rapunzel holding for her hands to look like this? A 48 (doll) inch tablet?? Haha.

And you could still see my orange bath towel in the background.

I really like Anna's expression here. She looks so coy.

Rapunzel looking up. No the camera is not up there, girl.

On Rapunzel:

Barbie pink skirt

On Anna:

Barbie fashion pack blue floral dress

Anna mugging the camera.

I really wish I have a Mattel Frozen Elsa head and a spare Liv body, so that Elsa could play their other sister.
