Geek Culture

I didn't go to Collecticon because I forgot it's happening last month, haha. But I happened to pass by Geek Culture at SM Megamall. Photos:

I don't get the appeal of Funko Pop. I mean if my favourite character has been turned into a Funko Pop figure, I'll probably like it, but in general, I just don't get it... Don't hate me for my opinion though... :-/

Honey Hill Bunch

I saw this soft cloth doll at the thrift store. (I've already washed and combed her hair in this photo.)

I saw on the tag that it's made by Mattel in 1975. Oh vintage! I remember seeing a different one on an earlier visit to the store, but I didn't get that one. What made me purchase this particular doll is because I initially wanted her head but not her body. I bought her for P15 so I thought I won't feel bad when I decapitate this doll. I have an extra Toy Century body mentioned in this entry and which I just fixed with hot glue. I thought this doll's head might be a funny match to the body. However, when I looked up this doll online for identification, I find it difficult now to push through with my decision.

This is a Honey Hill Bunch doll from Mattel in the seventies. This doll is the Slugger Doll or simply Battie. She's supposed to have her green top and a soft bat, but nope.

I'm thinking of keeping her as she is and just find another head donor. What do you think?

Coming soon: DC Super Hero Girls dolls

So excited to see the upcoming DC Super Hero Girls doll line next year!! They look so good in preview photos!!

From left to right: Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Superwoman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, BumbleBee.
Not sure why Katana has not been turned into a doll yet when she belongs to this group, too.

My overall favourite would have to be Harley Quinn. She has a different face mould from the rest because of her smile. For the outfit, it's still Harley, and Batgirl because I love some purple.

Check out this video from New York Comic Con 2015!

Ever After High Mira Shards

OMG. This is an upcoming doll from Ever After High and I can't wait to see her get reviewed. It's Mira Shards!!

At first people thought that she looked so much like Raven Queen so they are wondering that this must be her in a new form. And 'Mira Shards' sounds like Mirror Shards and could be referring to the Evil Queen's magic mirror being broken.

She's actually the Evil Queen herself out of the Magic Mirror and in teenage form so she could attend Ever After High! She's supposed to appear in the TV special entitled Dragon Games.

I thought Courtly Jester might be my favourite upcoming doll from Ever After High, but seeing how much her appearance as a doll has changed since her preview (not enough purple on her hair, among other things!!), I say I like Mira Shards better!

Mira Shards is perfect!!!

Miniature items

Yesterday I bought two items that I thought I could use for my dolls:

1) A pair of shoe keychains from Kenko World for P40. Ok, they are on sale for P20 a pair at this CD-R King store I visit sometimes, but I couldn't find a match because the shoes are sold individually and not as pairs, and there was only one red shoe and one yellow shoe left. When I was out and about yesterday, I spotted a Kenko World store and found the same shoes but at its original price. I need shoes for my Licca-chan (Yes! Finally I have one. More about her later.) so I thought that they'd be perfect for her even if the shoes are both right-footed.

2) A jelly bag keychain I got from Swell Stuff gift shop at Market Market for P40. It's supposed to be an imitation of the Furla jelly bag but mine doesn't have the label Furla sculpted on it, which is fine. I'm not so picky about that detail. I just want a cute jelly bag for my collection.

Photos later!!!

I don't know why but I really like miniature stuff. Even when I was in high school, I used to collect small items in 1/6th scale such as mini electric fans and pots and pans etc. A school project came at the right time because my group in class needed to construct a diorama of a home. So I used my toys to accessorise the house. I don't remember what happened to those toys anymore.

Nowadays I like looking for stuff that could be used for my dolls. I think it's fun.

At Clipper store, I found small backpacks that I think would fit 12-inch fashion dolls, but they're pricey at P99.75. If only I could just take pictures to show you what I mean.

Oh about Licca-chan, I bought her for P300 from the seller I know at Vivo Citi. She came with a night gown, so that's really like P200 for the doll and P100 for the gown, which I think is a nice deal considering some nude Licca-chans are sold for P400 and above online. Since I already bought Licca-chan outfits beforehand, I was able to change her outfit when I got home. I didn't even bother washing her anymore because the seller already gave her TLC before she got displayed at the store. Her hair is crimped. What is that about? I don't know if I like it or not. She is so cute though, and her legs can bend, so yay!!

OK I'm rambling now but that's all I have to say for this post. Have a blessed Sunday!

Replacement arms for Monster High dolls

My sister is coming back from America again and she asked me what I want her to bring home. I couldn't answer right away because I haven't really thought about it. She bought me two dolls before and I don't think I want a new one given that I still have many dolls to dress up and style. I thought of asking for a Lottie doll but maybe next time, haha.

Anyway, I thought of asking her if she could help me buy Monster High replacement arms from Mattel. But then I checked the price and got discouraged. Each set of arms for a doll costs $4 which is too much for me since most of my dolls are thrifted and cost less than $4.

I think it might be more practical to purchase Create a Monster parts like this which come in three sets of arms a pack, even though they won't fit normal Monster High dolls right away. You just need to shave the pegs to fit non-CAM dolls. The problem with this is you won't get the right colour for the doll you're saving, but if it's not that important to you, then this is better deal than buying specific replacement parts.

++++

I have a lot of things to post but I haven't gotten around to gathering the photos I took and uploading them online. Will do it in the days or weeks to come.

Bratz Kidz, and Rapunzel mini doll

I thrifted these two dolls on separate occasions.

This Bratz Kidz doll that just confuses me...

I can't identify this doll. Also I find it strange that it has no articulation in the body at all!

I bought this doll for P20 from a street vendor outside the Quezon City hall.

Her hair is very thick though so that's cool. I've started painting it with a base coat. I'm not done with the repaint yet!

And here is Rapunzel from the Disney Tangled Ever After exclusive mini princess doll set. Her right leg is about to come off and she has bite marks on her legs and hands. She's almost the same size as my Dawn doll so I thought it's cool that Dawn will have a companion very soon when I'm done fixing Rapunzel. I actually hot glued her right hip joint so her right leg is stuck in that position forever. It's OK because I just plan to display her as a mannequin anyway.

La Dee Da fashion pack

I found a La Dee Da fashion pack on sale for P200 at Kids Depot, Araneta Center, Cubao.

I thought it's a nice deal because I have a La Dee Da doll, and from what I know about Barbie fashion packs, the price range is normally P250 to P400 depending on the items. This fashion pack has so many stuff so that's what made me get it.

The colours of the dress reminded me of Gigi Grant from Monster High. Haha. Anyway, the fashion pack comes with a long dress, an extra tulle filler which can be used to lengthen the skirt or style the upper part of the dress, shoes, a clutch bag and a simple bow with velcro that can attach to doll hair.

The dress is constricting on the legs. My Sloane's legs were closely together when I tried the dress on her. It's also quite difficult to hike it up past her knees because of the tightness of the skirt. This dress style doesn't allow me to try it on a Monster High doll because MH dolls have wide hips!

The extra tulle accessory was confusing for me. I couldn't achieve its effect when worn on the chest as shown in the box photo. But I could turn it into a huge collar, if I wanted too, so I guess that makes up for the problem.

The clutch is impossible to hold by the doll. No handles whatsoever, so I decided to keep the clear band wrapped around it for future use.

The shoes are ok. Not great, but it does the job anyway. So is the bow, not that great but that's all I have and it does attach to the doll hair when I place it on the doll's head.

Maybe in the future, I'd switch the clothes of Sloane and loan her original outfit to another Monster High doll who needs an outfit badly.

Rocket Raccoon Titan Hero Series

Ah!! I was at Toy Kingdom yesterday when I saw that this figure of Rocket from Guardians of The Galaxy was on sale for P200. I remember the sale price to be much higher, P400 to be exact, so I thought this is already a good deal!

This is the toy I got: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rocket-Raccoon-Series-Includes-Blaster/dp/B00IJZPZT4

It's much bigger in scale compared to this Groot figure I bought on sale a couple of months ago, but I'm happy to have Rocket because he can stand on his own with the help of his tail!

I have no photo of him out of the box yet, but perhaps when I do take one, I'll put Groot beside him for the photo!
