Warehouse Sale, Skelita, and Lava Cake

I went to Richprime Global Inc's warehouse sale last December 5th. This is my haul from the warehouse which was a couple of floors up the building, and at Kids Depot on the ground floor.

2 Angry Birds camping sets worth P300 each, because I’ve wanted a miniature tent for so long, I might as well get two tents because why not.. I heard about this camping set from a fellow doll collector who found one at the sale, so I made sure to look out for this when I visited the warehouse. These were actually difficult to find. The boxes were placed so far back in one of the Barbie shelves, and I had to pull out other boxes in front to see these.

A Rio 2 blue macaw family pack worth P200, because the woman who bought the duo packs said she’d be using hers for her plants and I was like whooaaa..  I've been using the birds to decorate my cactii, haha.

A La Dee Da fashion pack, worth P50, with the bunny missing and the straps of the dress already disintegrating but that’s ok because it’s hella cheap anyway.

2 sets of Monster High tapefitti tapes, worth P200 each, for me and my friend. My friend likes washi tapes, and I like to craft when I have the time, so these are perfect for us.

And a Barbie MTM pink top, worth P700, for my friend because she has been looking for one for so long and we couldn't find any at our local stores anymore. She has already paid me back, lol.

Here is Lottie modelling the La Dee Da fashion pack, the Rio birds, and the camping set!

Brand new Monster High dolls are so rare now, I could only find them at Kids Depot. I found Scarah Screams (Freaky Fusion) there for P200!! That's crazy! But I didn't want to get her because I don't like her fusion with Toralei Stripe, haha.

Speaking of Monster High, I found Skelita Calaveras at the thrift store back in November.

I have no clothes for her, but I think I like her naked like this; I can see al her bones.

And I wish I knew whom to credit for the photo above. I found it on Instagram and forgot to get the link, shucks! Anyway, that's a gorgeous lava cake with a doll topper made to look like Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray from the Philippines! She even has the iconic Three Stars and Sun ear cuff! This is truly a work of art!

Doll Impulsions (Part 3)

Oh I totally forgot I'm doing this Doll Impulsions thing on my blog, lol.

A La Dee Da doll!! I like that the dress is still there, and her hair still looks nice. I try my best not to rescue any more La Dee Das. In fact I even saw a fashion pack for La Dee Da at Kids Depot for P200, but I didn't get it because I was controlling myself, lol.

I wonder what doll this is. It has full articulation, it seems! Very interesting. If I have to rebody a doll, I'd probably get that.

GoldieBlox!! I love her face! I wish I could get her but the price is a little steep for something tiny and secondhand, so nope. (But I'll think about it. I mean what if that goes on sale or something, right? Hahaha)

Oh dear, I think this one's a really good find, but yeah I'm practicing self control, and I don't have the budget, hahaha. I don't know the exact name of this doll so if you could identify this, that would be awesome. 😁

I wonder what this small doll is. I doubt it's a Takara compact doll. Probably a vintage one. Hmm. I think I have that outfit in red. I made my Hi:Glamm Kit doll wear it.

Reaction to Shibajuku Girls Article

So I stumbled upon this article from the Dailymail:
Party's over, Barbie! Meet the woman whose Harajuku-inspired dolls are set to shake up the toy industry
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3609999/Madeleine-Hunter-invented-Harajuku-inspired-Shibajuku-Girls-dolls-set-rival-Barbie.html

To be honest, these Shibajuku Girls remind me of other big- and round-headed dolls like Pullip, Blythe, La Dee Da, and Cutie Pops. I don't think they are in direct competition with Barbie at all because she's on a different league.

Shibajuku Girls

Cutie Pops

La Dee Da

'I've made the doll large than any doll on the shelf. It's 13 inches and the standard doll size is 11 and a half inches,' Ms Hunter said.
'I also went back to that really natural and pretty face, I know there are a lot of monster dolls and vampires are a huge trend, but since Barbie there hasn't really been a pretty doll.'
There hasn't really been a pretty doll. Well what do Ever After High dolls look like to her? A bunch of ogres? Or those Bratz, Disney Descendants dolls, Disney Star Darlings, and Moxie Girlz, are they not pretty dolls?

In terms of height, DC Super Hero Girls are quite the same. They're pretty looking dolls, too. And has she not seen Gooliope Jellington or those three frightfully tall ghouls dolls, or Madeline Hatter in her giant greasy hair glory? They're all really tall with bulbous head.

I think the best thing about Shibajuku Girls dolls would have to be the knee-high cat socks. I'm not even fascinated by their face or those inset glass eyes.

Up In The Mountains with Dee and Bee

My sister and I went to a clubhouse where she is a member of and is situated in the mountains and I knew it was just the right time for me to bring some dolls with me for taking photos. I knew the weather is bad, that it would be foggy up there, but the place has a pool side and lots of beach chairs and spacious rooms so I think I could come up with a photo or two. It was my first time to take a doll with me outside so I didn't have anything prepared. I just grabbed two dolls from my collection and hoped for the best.

I randomly picked two La Dee Da dolls, the newest additions to my collection. I found both of them at the thrift store on different occasions and thought I struck gold, doll gold haha, because they were quite in good condition even when they came with no clothes and shoes.

Here's the first photo I took:

This La Dee Da doll is City Girl Dee. I love her red hair. I dressed her up with Winx Club Flora top and skirt and clone Barbie fairy shoes. Look, this is really amateur of me because I didn't even bother anymore about Dee's upskirt shot, haha, but she has moulded panties anyway.

When I brought her out of my laptop bag and positioned her on the table, I felt awkward, because who does that but only doll hobbyists? I was a little scared of what to do, and I was even in a hurry to put her back in my bag, feeling that fear of being judged by the doll I carried with me from the city. But there weren't a lot of people around, so I went with it.

Dee is posing next to a huge taco salad. I love this. It's packed with vegetables and even came with guacamole. It was very filling and I would definitely order this when I come back.

Badly-lit photo, haha. I used the flash on my phone.

Look beyond the rail and you could see that it was foggy out there. If I wandered to the rock gardens nearby, I was afraid I'd slip because the ground is wet. So I didn't go for it.

My sister ordered a shoyu ramen, a soy sauce based noodle soup. To me, the soup doesn't look appetising in this photo because it lacks in presentation, but the broth actually tastes good. And it was a huge bowl that my sister and I had to share it.

I'm no food photographer, hey.

We also ordered two sets of salmon sushi, and here is my plate. The pieces are HUGE. Those aren't bite-sized at all.

That taco salad gave me gas, lol, but it was so worth it. I thought afterwards that we shouldn't have gotten an extra salmon sushi plate because the food was too much.

Afterwards, my sister and I went to the library because we were getting bitten by mosquitos at the pool side. There was wifi access so we took advantage of that and brought our laptops with us.

Here is Dee with another La Dee Da doll: Dee as Bee-licious. Basically Dee met herself here, haha. Anyway, I know this photo sucks because of the flash. It wasn't dark in the library. I just forgot to turn off the flash on this photo.

Dee as Bee-licious, um let's just call her Bee now to avoid confusion, is wearing a La Dee Da fashion pack dress, an unknown doll skirt over the dress, and clone Barbie fairy shoes. The shoes are in the wrong colour, but I didn't have any blue clone shoes like this. I only have red and purple.

Bee's solo shot. I am not fond of Bee's bent arms, but what can I do, eh?

I turned off the flash this time. See, the library wasn't dark at all.

Have a somewhat blurry shot of Bee again.

And here is Dee. I don't know why I posed her this way. Maybe I wanted her to look like she was having a coma for all the food we had earlier.

I'm not sure if you could see, but there's a small clothes pin at the back of Dee's skirt because Winx Club skirts are so wide waisted on La Dee Das. I guess it helps that the pin is colour red and is camouflaged in Dee's red hair.

I didn't take more photos of my dolls after this. I just put them back in my laptop bag and continued surfing the net. I was even watching where I left off on Most Popular Girls in School, haha.

Things I learned from this experience:
  1. It's better to practice posing your doll before you take her on a trip for a photo shoot. Knowing your doll's posing capability makes the shoot much faster to conduct, specially if it's a spontaneous shoot. Oh and it helps if you also think of how their eyes look, if they are painted straight or looking at the side. Sometimes I forget that dolls do not look straight at the camera so I end up forgetting to move their head towards it.
  2. Knowing how your camera works helps a lot too. Does it pick up light very well? Is it sensitive to motion? To be honest, I don't aspire to take Pinterest-worthy photos, but just photos I think that look decent enough to document whatever I was taking photos of. I like mobile phone photography that way because it doesn't take that much effort. But getting technical about this stuff, even just a little, can help improve future doll photos, right?
  3. A carrying case for dolls would be nice, to protect them from being broken, and if they came with accessories and props, those things would not get misplaced because they are packed securely. Just like how you would prepare for a flight, you need a bag or suitcase. Dolls need that, too.
  4. I guess it also helps in the story-telling of your photography if you have pre-set characteristics and background stories for your dolls. In my case, I didn't have anything planned for these two. They were just hanging out where I was. But what if, say, Dee has an adventurous side to her and she'd be the one getting into strange and hard to reach nooks and crannies in photos, while Bee is the dainty and prim and proper one, only seen sitting on chairs and couches? That would make an interesting photo shoot, I assume. These two dolls weren't even interacting with each other. They were just THERE.
  5. Muster all the courage and just go for it, no matter if other people look at you strange. It's just a doll you're holding, relax. It's not obscene, and it's not being loud, causing a racket and destroying the peace, so why should they care so much about your stuff? If someone asks about what you are doing, say it's for your blog, or it's for a project. Having a sense of purpose for the photo shoot makes you more strong-willed to just do it without hesitation.

Item no. 5 is my main issue because I am still not comfortable bringing dolls outside of my house. I mean, I'm not so open about my doll collecting to everyone, so the shyness is holding me back to take more photos, but I'll definitely work on it.

A Photo Dump! [Part 10]

I found another Licca (the one in the blue waitress uniform below) at the thrift store. It was an unexpected find because I didn't think I'd find a Takara doll at this particular store. Even if I already have a Licca doll, another one for a cheap price wouldn't hurt.

I brought her home, together with another find I'll talk about later, and I found out that my second Licca is a bit different from my first. You can't see it in the photo, but she has blonde hair that ends below her shoulders. Her skin tone is much lighter, and her arms are more bendable and posable.

On her back, if I'm not mistaken, the label is TOMY and not Takara.

The other doll I found with Licca the 2nd is a vintage Skooter doll from Mattel! She is Skipper's friend in the sixties, and I got her really cheap. Her face has freckles, and she has bangs. Her hair is quite frizzy but I managed to tie them into two pig tails, her signature hair style. She has a pink body with straight legs, and her feet are flat and slim. She has discolouration on her cheek and  small bite marks on her leg but I don't mind anymore. Her chest is flat so she could wear Daiso Elly-chan clothes and also Licca's clothing.

I thought it would be cute to dress them up in similar outfits. The hats are from 7-11 Paddington Bears.

I tidied up a bit to free some space on my desk. I selected a couple of dolls that would remain there while the others were bagged and stored in a plastic bin. Oh and that's my Peanuts placemat I bought at the toy store.

This is an old shelfie, by the way.

It's a bad photo, sorry. It's definitely cluttered. BUT I DIGRESS.

On the far left of my desk right now is Disney Pocahontas' gown. I found a 2010 Pocahontas doll (not in photo) wearing this dress, and I brought her home. I gave Pocahontas a boil wash, the first time I ever did a boil wash, but I still couldn't restore all her hair because the ends are scraggly, so I also gave her a trim. The dress form I'm using is another thrift store find, from a Tangled Rapunzel boutique set. I can actually put a doll head on the "neck knob" of the dress form, if I want to.

Next to the dress (which I removed for this photo) is Skooter. She is wearing a Licca dress. The colours of this dress reminds me of her stock outfit, so Skooter might be wearing this for a long while until I find her better clothing.

My two Liccas (I really should give them names. Soon.) are still in Daiso outfits. I also found a Licca mini doll key chain which Licca the 1st is holding in her arms. The mini doll needs a touchup on her hair paint, but I can do that at a later time.

Attached on Skooter's shoulders is Slugger Doll Battie from Honey Hill Bunch

Battie has a similar face to Skooter, freckles and all, so they could play sisters. My two vintage Mattel dolls together!

Next is La Dee Da Sloane as Lollipop Swirl, and beside her are my two Frankies from Monster High, who are literally Frankendollies.

Skultimate Roller Maze Frankie has Cleo and Clawdeen arms, a Cleo leg, and I got her fake hands from an online seller. The gloved hands are supposedly Avea Trotter's. Her outfit consists of a purple knitted hat, a Monster High Physical Deaducation shirt, a Paddington Bear jacket, Cleo's Skull Shores pants, and Kenko World shoe charms.

School's Out Frankie received an arm from my other Frankie, then her hands are from the same online seller. The hands are supposed to be Madeline Hatter's but the white polka dots on her gloves are fading. She is wearing a top hat I put together (that shouldn't be on her but I don't want to put the hat back in storage just yet), Classroom play set dress, an unbranded pink jacket, and shoes I made out of foam and a tongue depressor. I shall post about these shoes on a different entry.

Next are my only Ever After High dolls.

Hunter Huntsman with a Bratz foot and mismatched shoes, signature Kitty Chesire, and Madeline Hatter which I use photograph quite often for my blog. I talked about her outfit here. She is carrying a rubber bag charm, similar to the ones I posted about here. Her stand is made out of a jar lid, a balloon stick, and foam. The set up is a bit flimsy, but I still have a lot of balloon sticks so I'll keep using them when I make doll stands.

Beside Maddie is Freak du Chic Honey Swamp temporarily wearing a top hat because I didn't want to store the hat yet, and the sweater I made out of socks.

Next to Honey is Skutimate Roller Maze Clawdeen which I really like because of her soft purple hair with green streaks. She's wearing a very small crop top underneath the Paddington bear jacket, Betty Spaghetti Slumber Party pajamas, and unbranded pink sneakers. Her hands are bought online and I haven't identified whose pink hands are those yet.

And the last doll is Lollipop Girls Brigitte who I mistakenly identified as Cassie. I still call her Cassie to this day. She's wearing a Peruvian Barbie dress, and Winx Club Flora shoes. I still have to make her a lollipop she could hold. Her stand is also made of a jar lid, a thick balloon stick, and foam.

The rest of my dolls, nude and clothed, are now stored in a plastic bin. All of them have been bagged using thin plastic ice bags. I didn't put the lid of the bin tightly because I still want to check them all from time to time, to see if they are doing OK inside. I mean, with this kind of weather in the Philippines right now, I can get paranoid about the staining and the sticking. I only collect play line dolls so I think they can withstand this set up.

By the way,

I finally managed to photograph my bootleg Frozen Anna and Mattel Anna together!

Mattel Anna vs. bootleg Anna

They have similar moulds, but they only differ in the faceup. Bootleg here has a faded look to her, but her lips are much redder than Mattel Anna's. Mattel Anna has more detailed eyes and more prominent freckles. I like them both!

Ending this post with a bunch of dolls having spot treatment.

Ever After High dolls SOON in the Philippines!

Wow this is good.

It has been announced on Richwell Club and Kids Company Facebook pages that Ever After High will finally be sold in the Philippines! SOON!

The new Ever After High Facebook page is quite empty as expected, but I'm pretty excited about the upcoming doll releases here.

LET'S GO!!!
Actually, no. There's nowhere else to go. We just have to wait and find out soon which dolls they are bringing over to the Philippines. I'm not hopeful that they're going to bring all characters here, but we'll see...

In other news, Richwell is reminding us that they have a payday sale, haha.

But OK, I'm keeping my eye on La Dee Da stuff.

Doll Dress Up Games

Doll dress up games are fun mindless games. You even have the option to play the game with background music if you like. Well, that is an option at Starsue.net. Anyway...

Once Upon A Zombie - Zombie Alice

Cutie Pops

La Dee Da - Cyanne

DC Super Hero Girls - Harley Quinn

DC Super Hero Girls - Poison Ivy

DC Super Hero Girls - Wonder Woman

DC Super Hero Girls dolls are out now in America, by the way. I'm so envious.

Fairy Tale High - Teen Cinderella

Zeenie Dollz - Kazumi

The spark on her left eye is annoying. I didn't even put that there.

Pinkie Cooper

Monster High Freak Du Chic - Jinafire Long

Monster High Brand Boo Students - Kjersti Trollson

Fairy Tale High - Teen Alice
